How does the skin scan work?

You take a guided face scan in the app. It reads what is visible in the photographs — clarity, redness, tone, texture, pores, radiance, and the under-eye area — and turns those readings into a score and a plan. Nothing is measured beneath the surface, because a photograph cannot see there.

How accurate is the skin score?

The score describes how skin looks in the photographs you took, so lighting, angle, and time of day genuinely move it. Scanning in similar conditions each time is what makes the comparison between scans meaningful. The app is honest about uncertainty rather than presenting a number as a measurement it is not.

Will my score always go up?

No, and an app that promised that would be lying. Skin fluctuates with sleep, stress, cycle, weather, and the products you use. The point is the trend across several scans, not any single number, and the app will tell you when it does not have enough scans to call a trend at all.

Why can I not scan my face every day?

Scans unlock on your plan's check-in date, usually every few days, and that applies to everyone including subscribers. Skin does not change meaningfully overnight, so scanning daily would mostly measure the lighting. Waiting is what makes the comparison worth looking at.

Does Lerin replace a dermatologist?

No. It is a cosmetic skincare app for education, routine support, and progress tracking. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose or treat anything, and it is no substitute for professional care. Anything urgent, painful, spreading, or persistent belongs with a doctor.

Can I use it alongside a prescription treatment?

You can, and the app is built to step back when you are already under treatment. Telling it about a prescription during onboarding removes active ingredients from your routine, so it supports your skin barrier instead of competing with what your prescriber has planned. Follow your doctor first, always.

Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

If you tell the app you are pregnant or breastfeeding it excludes retinoids outright and treats other actives cautiously. It is still cosmetic guidance rather than medical advice, so check anything you are unsure about with your doctor or midwife.

Do I have to buy new products?

No, and that is deliberate. The first thing the app offers is to scan the products you already own and fit them into your routine, because respecting money you have already spent matters more than selling you something. Recommendations only ever fill the gaps left over.

Can it check a product before I add it?

Yes. Scan a barcode or the label and it checks that product against your own profile: your sensitivities, the ingredients you asked to avoid, and what is already in your plan. It will tell you when something does not fit, which is often more useful than another recommendation.

Does it work for acne-prone, dry, oily, or sensitive skin?

Yes. Your routine is built from your own scan and onboarding answers, so sensitivity shortens phases and limits how many actives run at once, and stated allergies or avoided ingredients are excluded outright. It organizes cosmetic routine decisions; it does not diagnose or treat skin disease.

Does it work for all skin tones?

The readings describe visible qualities like evenness, texture, and redness rather than comparing skin against any single ideal, and the routine follows from your own baseline. If a scan does not look right to you, retake it in better light and tell us at the support address.

What happens to my face photos?

Accepted Answer

They are stored privately against your account and used to produce your analysis and to show you how your own scans change. They are never sold, never used for advertising, and never used to build a profile for anyone but you. They are deleted automatically on a retention schedule, or immediately whenever you delete them.

Can I delete my data?

Accepted Answer

Yes, from inside the app under Settings, without asking anyone. Deleting removes both the photographs and the readings derived from them, and deleting your account removes everything. It is permanent, so a deleted scan cannot be brought back.

What does it cost, and is there a free trial?

The app is free to download and the subscription unlocks your scores, your plan, and the assistant. There is no free trial: you see real analysis of your own face before any payment is asked for, which we think is the more honest version of the same thing. Annual and monthly are both offered.

How do I cancel?

In iOS Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions. Billing is handled by Apple rather than by us, so cancelling there stops the next renewal and you keep access until the period you already paid for runs out. Refund requests go to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Which devices does it run on?

iPhone, on iOS. An Android version is not available yet.

Do I need an account, or an internet connection?

Accepted Answer

No sign-up, no password: the app creates an anonymous account on first launch and you can scan straight away. A connection is needed for scans and assistant answers, since the analysis runs in the cloud rather than on your phone.
